New Challenge: Learning Spanish?!

Hello! Hope you’re doing good 😀

So here’s the thing, after completing my previous challenge on being actively grateful, I want to challenge myself with something else. Then I thought:

“Hey, my girlfriend is from Mexico and even though she speaks English, her family doesn’t lol and that could be a problem!”

I used to study Spanish irregularly for a bit but that ain’t enough cause I would always end up not doing it by occupying myself with other stuff to do lol. That said, I think perhaps it’s time to really commit myself to this and hence, this challenge.

So now, I wanna ask you-

Do you have any ideas on how I can tackle this challenge in learning a new language? Maybe learn a new word everyday and use it somehow?

If you got ideas? I’m all ears so please let me know 😀

Naturally, if you wanna learn Spanish with me too, let me know too and we can work on how we can do this together XD

Alright that’s all for now, hope to hear from you and talk to you soon! Till then, stay chirpy 😉

Your pal,

  1. Good luck with learning Spanish Benjamin. For learning another language I recommend:

    1) watch Spanish TV/Films with the subtitles on and really pick up on particularly words/sentences and repeat them.
    2) Listen to Spanish music, look up translations of the lyrics in your preferred language. (also read Spanish blogs, websites, building up to books)
    3) Use post it notes and write the Spanish on it for objects around your home.
    4) Make it fun – focus on areas of the language that you are interested in and will get most use
    5) Make it practical – also look at what is useful for your day-to-day needs.
    6) Practice as much as possible when you are out with your girlfriend converse in Spanish only.

    1. Ayeee thanks James!!! Nice to see you around! How are you doing bud?! 😀

I will definitely be using these stuff you said. You sound like you’ve got experience in learning a new foreign language before, do you??

      1. I have! In the past I have done French, German, Spanish and Mandarin.

I did the French, German and Spanish because it was compulsory at my school to do at least two languages, so I dropped the French because I hated the alcoholic teacher we had!

Can’t really speak any that well, though that is done to – if you don’t use it you lose it.

I got the advice about making it fun from French people with good English who talked about all the exposure they get from English language media.

Most important thing with learning a language is to have the self-belief that you can do it. When you have that you will make effort to practice as much as possible and stop delibretly trying to make yourself right and it will soon flow.

        All the best

  2. Hola Benjamin! Netflix is a great resource to learn Spanish! If you just started you can watch cartoons/animes for kids in Spanish. They speak slower and you can also turn on English subtitles as well. For me, I used to watch a whole series with Spanish audio and English subtitles first, then Spanish audio and Spanish subtitles, and followed by Spanish audio only.

    Hopefully this helps! 🙂

      1. haha no I still have so much to learn 😀
        “Masha and the Bear”
        “Sonic Boom”
        “Kulipari: An army of frogs”
        “The Seven Deadly Sins”
        “Magi : Adventure of Sinbad”
Kind of in the order I watched them as well as difficulty.
